ADTRAN Mark C. Smith Endowed Engineering Scholarship

Established by ADTRAN, Inc., of Huntsville, Alabama, to promote the education of deserving full-time students in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama. Scholarship recipients must be accepted or enrolled in The University of Alabama College of Engineering and have declared a major in one of the following undergraduate programs: electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, software engineering, or mechanical engineering. Another discipline may be considered based on approval by ADTRAN, Inc. Recipients must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and incoming freshmen must have a minimum 25 ACT score or a comparable SAT score. If a recipient’s cumulative college grade point average drops below a 3.0, the student will be placed on probation the following semester and will continue to receive the scholarship. If, after one semester probation period, the student’s cumulative grade point average is improved to a 3.0 or higher he/she will retain the scholarship. If the student’s cumulative grade point average does not improve to a 3.0 or higher at the end of one semester probation period, the scholarship will be revoked. Only one probation period per student will be granted. Priority of consideration is given to dependents of ADTRAN employees, if funds are available, scholarships may be awarded to students meeting all other aforementioned criteria if dependents of ADTRAN employees cannot be identified. These awards will be based upon scholastic merit; financial need will not be considered. Recipients of these scholarships will be known as the ADTRAN, Inc./Mark C. Smith Scholars.
