Charles E. Fondren Jr. Endowed Scholarship

Established by Robert L. Fondren to establish a scholarship in memory of his brother, Charles E. Fondren Jr., and to promote the education of students at The University of Alabama. Priority of consideration is given to deserving undergraduate and graduate students majoring in any field in the College of Engineering, majoring in physics with a concentration in astrophysics in the College of Arts and Sciences, or majoring in geological sciences with a concentration in vertebrate paleontology in the College of Arts and Sciences. Qualified candidates must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily need as defined by federal guidelines. The donor desires that the scholarship award(s) be alternated each year among qualifying students of the College of Engineering, the Department of Physics & Astronomy, and the Department of Geological Sciences and that emphasis be placed on increasing the number of scholarships awarded from the earnings as the corpus of the permanent fund grows.
