Dr. Barney Cargile Accounting Scholarship
Established by Luther D. McDaniel. Priority of consideration is given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Culverhouse College of Business who are majoring in accounting, possess a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and who have experienced unexpected financial needs, though not necessarily need as defined by federal guidelines. The donor has requested that the grade point average requirement above be a flexible guideline, as opposed to a necessity, and that the head of the Department of Accounting be allowed to recommend a student who falls short of the 3.0 requirement for the award if the student shows need and academic potential. Among qualified candidates, additional priority is given to gainfully employed students, as identified by the head of the department, who have been required to decrease work hours, and thus employment income, for additional study time to keep up with academic requirements. The scholarship is renewable at the discretion of the scholarship committee.
