Charles E. Sellers Endowed Accounting Scholarship
Established by Charles E. Sellers. Priority of consideration is given to entering freshman students who graduated from a high school in Alabama, are enrolled in the Culverhouse School of Accountancy in the lower division accounting program and demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, and demonstrate potential even though entering grade point average may not demonstrate the potential. Scholarships are renewable provided the scholarship committee deems the recipient’s performance and academic progress satisfactory and provided the recipient remains enrolled in the Culverhouse School of Accountancy. The scholarship is also renewable should the student enter their fifth year in the Culverhouse School of Accountancy. The Donor Representative intends that the scholarship shall be awarded an amount at least equal to the current tuition for a full-time in state student. Once fully funded, the Donor Representative intends to have at least three scholars in each class year. During any fiscal year with a surplus of earnings, scholarship awards may be made to junior, senior, or graduate students who graduated from a high school in Alabama, are enrolled in the Culverhouse School of Accountancy, possess a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and who demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily need as defined by federal guidelines. The Donor Representative requests that scholarship recipients be known as Sellers Scholars, and if a recipient fails to meet requirements, their scholarship shall be awarded to another student at the same class level. An essay is required for the applicant’s consideration.
