Diane Southwell Williams Excellence in Journalism Scholarship

Established by Dr. Dent Williams to honor the memory of Mrs. Williams. Priority of consideration is given to rising senior students who are enrolled in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, graduated from a high school within the state of Alabama, majoring in news media and are members of the UA chapter of the Kappa Tau Alpha national honor society. If the UA chapter of Kappa Tau Alpha ceases to exist, the scholarship is awarded to students active in any College of Communication and Information Sciences honor society chapter that recognizes excellence in journalism. If there ceases to be an honor society chapter for journalism students, the scholarship is awarded to a journalism student who has demonstrated leadership skills and financial need, although not necessarily need as defined by federal guidelines. If there are no in-state students that qualify, the scholarship is awarded to an out of state student.
