Dr. John William Cottier Endowed Scholarship in Anthropology

Established by the family of Dr. John W. Cottier. The endowment earnings are used to provide scholarships for students at the University. Scholarship awards may be used to assist one or more students with expenses related to attending the University, including, but not limited to, tuition, books, miscellaneous supplies, room, and board. The scholarship is awarded based on the following criteria: Priority of consideration is given to graduate students who are studying Southeastern U.S. archaeology as defined by the Southeastern Archaeological Conference, who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and who submit a 300-word essay about their studies in Southeastern U.S. archaeology. This essay will be reviewed by three archaeologists, preferably Southeastern archaeologists. If three suitable archaeologists cannot be supplied by the department, a secondary source of archaeologists will be the Council of Alabama Archaeology through the office of the state archaeologist, established by the state of Alabama. Secondary consideration is given to qualified undergraduate students.
