R. Earl Mitchell Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by the Tuscaloosa County Alumni Chapter and friends and family of R. Earl Mitchell. Priority of consideration is given to undergraduate students transferring from Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Preference is given to those who graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School, then students transferring from Shelton State Community College that have graduated from any other high school in Tuscaloosa County. Students demonstrating extensive community service are given priority. Financial need is a primary factor if information regarding financial need is provided by the applicant or known by the selection committee, but not financial need as defined by federal guidelines. The scholarship is automatically renewable for each succeeding year of the recipient’s undergraduate education, not to exceed a total of three academic years of undergraduate study (six semesters consisting of fall and spring), provided the incumbent recipient’s academic performance and progress are of such quality as to justify such renewal by maintaining a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.
