Jeanice and Jimmy Kirkland Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established by the Covington County Alumni Chapter to promote the education of deserving undergraduate students who enroll full time at The University of Alabama, and to honor the dedication and service of Jeanice and Jimmy Kirkland to The University of Alabama and the National Alumni Association. First priority of consideration is given to entering freshmen graduating from Opp High School (or its successor) located in Opp, Alabama. Second priority is given to entering freshmen from any other high school located in Covington County, Alabama. Selection is based upon demonstrated scholarship, exemplary character, leadership, and/or participation in extracurricular activities in high school and the community. At the discretion of the selection committee, the scholarship may be renewed to the incumbent recipient, for continued undergraduate education, not to exceed a total of four academic years of undergraduate study (eight semesters consisting of fall and spring), provided the incumbent recipient’s academic performance and progress are of such quality as to justify such renewal by maintaining a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.
